Daegu, South Korea

Daegu South Korea

Daegu, also spelled Taegu, is the fourth-largest city in South Korea and the capital and principal city of the surrounding Gyeongsangbuk-do province, although it is not legally part of the province. As one of Korea’s six major metropolitan cities, Daegu offers many traditional tourist attractions, including Bullo-dong Ancient Tomb Park—the largest concentration of ancient tombs in Korea—and the Daegu Bangjja Brassware Museum, which showcases brassware, one of Korea’s traditional cultural treasures. Located deep in the valley of Mt. Biseulsan, the famous Yugasa Temple was founded in 827 AD by the Buddhist monk Doseongguksa. Mt. Biseulsan is rich in folk tales related to Doseongguksa, and the temple’s tranquil natural surroundings make it an ideal place for meditation. For visitors seeking excitement, relaxation, and a taste of local life, Suseongmot Lake is a must-see. The largest manmade lake in Daegu, it covers 218,000 m² and has a circumference of 2 km. Originally constructed as a reservoir for agricultural water, it has evolved into Daegu’s most popular public park, offering boating, laser water shows, and a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year.
